Labiaplasty Q & A
What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are gnarled, enlarged veins. Any vein can become varicose, though they are most common in the legs and feet.
Varicose veins appear dark purple or blue in color with twisting and bulging cords protruding from underneath the skin. Common symptoms include:
- An achy or heavy feeling in the legs
- Burning, throbbing, or cramping sensations in your legs
- Worsened pain after standing or sitting for long periods
- Itching around the varicose vein
- Bleeding from the varicose vein
- Color changes or hardening of the vein
If you experience any of these symptoms, visit Atlanta Body Institute for relief from pain and improvement in the appearance of your varicose veins.
What causes varicose veins?
Varicose veins occur when the pumps in your veins weaken or the veins lose elasticity. When you are standing or walking, your veins must work against gravity to push blood up to your heart. If the venous pumps are weakened, your veins are less effective at returning blood to your heart, so blood pools in your veins.
Common risk factors for developing varicose veins include increased age, pregnancy, being female, a family history of varicose veins, obesity, and sitting or standing for long periods of time.
How are varicose veins treated?
Minimally invasive varicose vein treatments are available at Atlanta Body Institute:
Venefit™ Targeted Endovenous Therapy
During the Venefit procedure, Dr. Ibikunle uses ultrasound imaging to guide a small catheter through a tiny incision behind your knee to the affected vein. The catheter emits a specific radiofrequency to heat the vein, collapsing it within minutes.
The procedure is fast and creates less bruising than traditional vein stripping or surgical removal, so you experience less discomfort and recover sooner. Once the vein has collapsed, your blood will naturally reroute to a healthy vein.
Venacure™ Endovenous Laser System
A Venacure procedure involves the insertion of a tiny laser fiber into your vein that emits energy, collapsing the varicose vein. The laser system improves blood flow through the area, which can prevent other varicose veins from developing in the future.
The Venacure procedure is completed in under an hour with limited bruising and tenderness, compared to surgical treatment of varicose veins. You can return to your normal activities the same-day.
With minimally invasive treatment options for varicose veins, Atlanta Body Institute can help your legs feel and look better. Call Dr. Ibikunle or schedule a consultation today to learn more.
